Hi everyone!
As some of you know; my favorite destination in the whole world is Capetown. I like to go there at least once a year preferably for holidays, but the layovers for work are also very welcome. As I know Capetown well enough now, I have my favorite places I like to visit every time I’m back. Thereby – I get the question quite often where to go / eat / drink or do a wine tasting – So let’s write it down in a new blogpost! As Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are not that far away from Capetown I will mention my favorite spots over there as well. (all photos are taken by me, nothing is sponsored)
Hoi Iedereen!
Als sommigen van jullie weten, Kaapstad is mijn meest favoriete plek ter wereld! Ik probeer er minimaal een keer per jaar heen te gaan, het liefste voor vakantie en anders voor ‘werk-stopjes’ welke ik ook heer-lijk vind! Aangezien ik Kaapstad aardig ken, heb ik daar ook mijn favoriete adresjes welke ik graag bezoek elke keer als ik terug ben. Ik krijg vaak de vraag van mensen in mijn omgeving waar zij naartoe moeten om te eten, drinken en wijn te proeven. Dus – laat ik er een blogpost over schrijven! Aangezien Stellenbosch en Franschhoek niet ver van Kaapstad vandaan liggen ,neem ik ook mijn favoriete spots van deze twee plaatsen gelijk mee in deze post!
Capetown
Beluga
They have a huge menu with every dish you can imagine. From sushi and dimsum to good steaks! The staff is friendly, the restaurant big but cosy and the prices are good!
Bij Beluga hebben ze echt een enorm menu met alles wat je maar kunt verzinnen! Van sushi en dimsum tot steaks. Het personeel is vriendelijk, het restaurant groot maar gezellig en het is erg betaalbaar!
Kloofstreet House
The interior of this restaurant is super pretty. Outside you have those pretty light cords in the trees and inside it has something away from a living room. The food is very very lovely as well! In my opinion this is one of the coolest restaurants in Capetown. Make a reservation in advance, the restaurant is mostly fully booked every night.
Het interieur van dit restaurant is fantastisch. Buiten zijn er allemaal lichtjes in de bomen opgehangen en binnen vind je een soort van huiskamer stijl. Het eten is hier erg goed en ik vind dit zelf het hipste restaurant in Kaapstad. Reserveer van te voren want dit restaurant zit bijna altijd vol!
The Bungalow Clifton
A good place for a romantic lunch or dinner in a nice setting with seaview (and sea breeze). Also a good spot to hang out with friends for a sundowner. The food is delicious and so are the oysters over here! Een perfecte plek voor een romantische lunch of diner met zeezicht. Ook een goede plek om lekker te eten met vrienden of gewoon voor een sundowner. Het eten is er goed en de oesters zijn hier een aanrader!
Kirstenbosch Picknick
My favorite thing to do in Capetown (and around) is having a picknick for lunch. At the botanical garden of Kirstenbosch you have the possibility to order a picknick basket (via e-mail) at the Kirstenbosch Tea Room. The next day you can pick up your basket at the Tea Room at your time mentioned and order a bottle of wine to take with you. Pick out a spot somewhere in the grass under one of the big trees and enjoy your lunch, your wine and the sun!
Mijn favoriete bezigheid om te doen in Kaapstad (en daarbuiten) is om voor de lunch te gaan picknicken! Bij de botanische tuin van Kirstenbosch heb je de mogelijkheid om een dag van te voren een picknickmand samen te stellen en te reserveren via e-mail bij de Kirstenbosch Tea Room. De volgende dag kan je op de gewenste tijd die je zelf hebt opgegeven in je e-mail, je picknickmand ophalen en een fles wijn erbij bestellen. Zoek een plek uit in het gras onder een grote boom en geniet van je lunch, de wijn en de zon!
La Belle Bistro & Bakery
If you are staying around Kirstenbosch or near Camps Bay and you are looking for the most idyllic breakfast spot, check out the La Belle Bistro & Bakery. They also have a lunch and dinner menu which I did not check out yet!
Als je verblijft in de buurt van Kirstenbosch of Camps Bay en je bent op zoek naar een leuke idyllische plek om te ontbijten, ga dan naar de La Belle Bistro & Bakery. Ze hebben ook een lunch en dinerkaart welke ik nog niet heb uitgeprobeerd.
Steenberg
My favorite bubbles are from Steenberg. Check out this pretty wine farm close by Capetown and make some time to do a wine tasting. If you have the possibility; ask if you can do the small tour as an employee will show you the process of wine-making at the location itself. I always bring some bottles of the Steenberg Chardonnay Brut at home as I love this wine! Check out the restaurant Bistro1682 for lunch. Their food is yummy!
Mijn favoriete bubbels zijn die van Steenberg. Als je in Kaapstad bent breng dan een bezoekje aan deze mooie wijnboerderij en doe er een tasting. Als de mogelijkheid er is vraag dan om een rondleiding, een medewerker laat je alles zien wat betreft het proces in het maken van wijn. Ik neem altijd wat flessen Steenberg Chardonnay Brut mee naar huis, aangezien dit een van mijn lievelingswijnen is. Bij het restaurant van Steenberg, genaamd Bistro1682 kan je heerlijk lunchen!
Paranga
If I visit the beach and the promenade of Camps Bay, I always make a stop at the restaurant Paranga for some sushi and a glass of chardonnay Haute Cabriere!
Als ik naar Camps Bay ga, stop ik altijd bij Paranga voor een goede sushi lunch en een glas chardonnay Haute Cabriere.
Constantia Glen
Actually I visited this wine farm this year for the first time, after I tried a glass of their good wine in a restaurant. We had to have a bottle, it was so super delicious. The wine we were looking for is not cheap but so so good. The bottle I have at home is still unopened and I will only open up this bottle on a special occasion. But it is absolutely worth it to do a wine tasting over here and to combine it with one of their cheese or meat platters in their pretty garden or inside in their tasting room.
Ik stuitte pas dit jaar op Constantia Glen, nadat ik een glas rode wijn afkomstig van deze wijnboerderij had gedronken in een restaurant – en dit zo lekker was dat we een fles naar huis moesten meenemen. Het is niet een hele goedkope fles wijn maar zo ontzettend goed dat de fles nog steeds in mijn kast ligt te wachten op een speciaal moment. Het is het absoluut waard om een tasting hier te doen (een tasting is natuurlijk een stuk betaalbaarder mocht je heel erg op je budget moeten letten) en vooral in combinatie met de kaas- of vleesplanken buiten in de mooie tuin of binnen in de tasting room.
De Grendel
Also a pretty wine farm with the best view over the table mountain. It is breathtaking! Enjoy their wines together with the view. Especially their Chardonnay from 2015 is very good!
Hier kan je een proeverij doen met een fantastisch uitzicht over de tafelberg. Wijntjes drinken met dit uitzicht is zeker geen straf! Vooral de Chardonnay uit 2015 vond ik hier erg lekker.
La Colombe
If you are in for a truly culinair treat go to La Colombe and get surprised. They are one of the best restaurants in South Africa! Make a reservation in advance!
Als je echt een culinaire beleving wilt mag je La Colombe niet overslaan en laat je vooral verrassen! La Colombe is een van de beste restaurants in Zuid-Afrika. Reserveer wel op tijd!
Jarryds
One of the best breakfast (or lunch) spots in CapeTown (trip advisor agrees) and with all my favorites in one menu. Actually at almost every breakfast spot in Capetown they have my favorites like poached eggs or avocado on their menu but here they have it all plus 100.000 other things. The coffee here is also pretty amazing if you like coffee which I don’t and the staff is fast and friendly.
Een van de beste ontbijttentjes van Kaapstad (of lunch-) is Jarryds in (en tripadvisor is het met mij eens). Ze hebben er echt een enorm menu waar al mijn lievelingsontbijtjes op staan. Eigenlijk, in Kaapstad hebben ze op heel veel plekken mijn favorieten als poached eggs of avocado’s, maar hier hebben ze echt alles waar ik van houd plus nog 100.000 andere dingen. De koffie is hier erg goed als je van koffie houdt – ik houd alleen niet van koffie – en het personeel is vriendelijk en snel.
The Greenhouse at Cellars Hohenort
An absolutely amazing restaurant where its not only about the amazing food, but it’s a complete experience for all the senses. The wines are stunning and their staff is amazing. I cannot remember I had any better service than at the Greenhouse. Make a reservation in advance!
Echt een fantastisch restaurant waar het eten niet alleen heerlijk is maar er zit een hele beleving bij voor al je zintuigen. De wijnen die bij het menu geserveerd worden zijn fantastisch en goed doordacht. Ik kan mij niet herinneren dat ik ergens anders zulke goede service en bediening heb gehad als bij the Greenhouse. Reserveer op tijd een tafeltje!
Orphanage Cocktail Emporium
The best cocktail place in Capetown is the Orphanage Cocktail Emporium. It is a cool place with good service and the cocktails are pretty amazing, so is the presentation of the cocktails.
De beste en leukste cocktailtent van Kaapstad is de Orphanage Cocktail Emporium. De cocktails zijn hier echt top en ook nog eens superleuk gepresenteerd!
Test Kitchen
Funny thing is I never had the possibility to have dinner over here, while I tried it for many times already. It is always fully booked, bummer for me! But I heard it is amazing so if you have the possibility, than go!
Grappig feitje is dat ik hier nog nooit heb gegeten omdat het mij gewoon nog nooit is gelukt om hier een tafeltje te bemachtigen. Ik wil hier nog een keer heel graag eten, dus als je de mogelijkheid krijgt ga er dan echt heen!
Saturday Market @ The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock
If you are in Capetown on Saturday don’t have too much breakfast. Save some space in your tummy for all the delicious things you may find at the market in Woodstock. A foodmarket with music and wine where you can buy and taste a lot of food, drink wine and listen to some live music. Outside they sell vintage clothes and they have some cool shops around. A must do in the weekend!
Als je op een zaterdag in Kaapstad bent, ontbijt dan vooral niet te veel en laat wat ruimte over om heel erg veel lekkere dingen te eten op de zaterdagmarkt in Woodstock. Ik kan de zaterdagmarkt het beste beschrijven als een soort van foodmarket waar je eten kunt kopen voor daar – maar waar je ook potjes met tapenades en olijfolie kunt kopen voor thuis, met live muziek en heel erg veel wijn. Buiten verkopen ze vintage kleding en vind je er leuke winkeltjes. Een must-do in het weekend!
Fox croft
They won an award last year and I understand why. You can choose for the menu which exists of 2 tapas per person, a main course and a dessert. The food is excellent and surprising and the service standard is very high. Take the oysters martini before your dinner with a glass of sparkling wine, because they are really tasty!
Fox croft heeft in 2016 een award gewonnen en terecht! Je kan voor het menu kiezen welke bestaat uit 2 tapas vooraf per persoon, een hoofdgerecht en een dessert. Het eten en de service is hier echt van heel hoog niveau en de gerechten zijn lekker en verrassend. Vooraf, buiten het menu om, kan je de martini oesters bestellen met een glas bubbels, en dit is echt een aanrader want deze oesters zijn heel erg smaakvol en wijn met bubbels is altijd lekker!
Carne on Keerom
Craving for a good piece of meat? Go to Carne at Keerom (Keerom Street). They present you the pieces of meat they have and which you can choose from. The staff is friendly and funny at the same time and the atmosphere is laid back.
Zin in een lekker stuk vlees? Ga dan naar Carne at Keerom (op de Keerom straat). Ze laten hier de stukken vlees zien waar je uit kunt kiezen. Het personeel is vriendelijke en grappig en de sfeer is heel relaxed.
Stellenbosch / Franschhoek
Jordan Wine Estate
My favorite number 1 in South Africa for lunch! They are only open for lunch but the food, even the memories of the food, is so mouthwatering I go back there every time I’m around. Last time I was in Stellenbosch; they were fully booked, but I sent them an e-mail that without this particular lunch with my favorite restaurant on earth my holiday is not complete…so they arranged a table for me! Lucky! The staff is super kind! If I ask them for a recipe they are so nice to write it down for me. And besides the starters, mains and desserts, even the pieces of bread and the butters, aioli’s and tapenades are so crazy good….just go there and taste it yourself!
Mijn lievelingsrestaurant, nummer 1 in Zuid-Afrika voor lunch is bij Jordan! Ze zijn alleen open voor lunch, je kunt hier niet dineren. Maar het eten en mijn herinneringen van het eten zijn zo lekker en goed dat ik hier elke keer weer naartoe ga, anders is mijn bezoek niet compleet. De laatste keer was ik te laat met reserveren en was elke tafel volgeboekt. Gelukkig heb ik – na een zielige e-mail van all you need is love niveau – alsnog een tafeltje kunnen bemachtigen. Dit – samen met het feit dat als ik een recept wil weten voor thuis en dit dan gewoon meekrijg – zegt wel hoe vriendelijk de mensen zijn die hier werken. Behalve dat de voor- en hoofdgerechten en dessert belachelijk goed zijn, is ook het brood en de aioli en tapenade en zelfs het boter hier superlekker! Probeer het uit en oordeel!
Morgenster
Besides really nice wine tastings they do have olive oil tastings over here! I always buy a small bottle of truffle oil from Morgenster because I’m addicted to their truffle oil. But the other olive oils and of course the wines are very nice to try and buy!
Naast de lekkere wine tastings kun je hier ook een olijfolie tasting doen. Ik haal hier elke keer een klein flesje truffelolie voor thuis omdat ik hier verslaafd aan ben. Maar de andere olie’s en de wijnen zijn ook heerlijk om te proberen en te kopen!
Uva Mira
This is the wine farm with the best view of Stellenbosch for sure. The Uva Mira red wines are very good and this is one of my favorite places to visit for wine tasting! Try their cabernet sauvignon from 2014.
Dit is de wijnboerderij met het beste uitzicht van Stellenbosch! De rode wijnen van Uva Mira zijn erg goed en dit is een van mijn favoriete plekken voor een wijnproeverij. Probeer hier de cabernet sauvignon uit 2014.
Ernie Els
Ernie Els? The golf player Ernie Els? Yes, well this is his winery. A very pretty winery as I must say. Ask for a tasting in the garden!
Waarschijnlijk ken je alleen de golfspeler Ernie Els. Dat klopt en dit is de plek waar hij zijn wijn produceert. Het is best wel een chique tasting room en erg leuk om de tasting in de tuin te doen.
Peter Falke
Another famous name but probably you know him for uhm..his Peter Falke socks. Because producing wine and producing socks is almost the same, he is doing both. Kidding, he does own the socks line and the winery but his wine does not taste like socks. It is pretty good and the garden is a nice place to relax.
Nog een bekende naam die je misschien kent van…de Peter Falke sokken. Aangezien sokken en wijn maken bijna hetzelfde is doet hij het natuurlijk allebei. Gelukkig smaken zijn wijnen niet naar sokken en is de tuin een hele relaxte plek om te zitten en een wine tasting te doen.
Babylonstoren
This beautiful wine farm is even suitable for people who don’t drink wine and for children! Besides their wine tasting option, you’ll find a beautiful big garden over here where you can walk around (and children can run around) for at least an hour! They even have donkeys (and chickens) which are nice for the children as well! It’s so pretty! At Babylonstoren they accommodate two restaurants. One fine dining restaurant (reservations only) and a restaurant at the greenhouse where you don’t need to make a reservation and where they offer simple but tasty salads and sandwiches. I ate a lovely salad and had some fresh juice over here. This is a perfect place when it is sunny! Besides the restaurants they have a farm shop where you can buy several products, tableware and wine. I could not do the wine tasting as I visited Babylonstoren on the day I had to fly back home, so I brought a bottle of Babylonstoren Babel back home but did not try it out yet (as they say wine has to rest for one month after being in an airplane).
Deze prachtige wijnboerderij is zelfs leuk om te bezoeken als je geen wijnliefhebber bent of nog een kind bent. Naast het wijnproeven kun je hier een lange tijd rondlopen (en kinderen een lange tijd spelen en rondrennen) in de prachtige grote tuin. Hier lopen zelfs ezels (en veel kippen) rond wat natuurlijk fantastisch is voor kleine kinderen. De tuin is echt heel erg mooi! Op het terrein van Babylonstoren vindt je twee restaurants. Voor het ene restaurant (fine-dining / wat chiquer) moet je reserveren en voor het restaurant bij de Greenhouse hoef je niet te reserveren. Hier is het menu iets simpeler en bieden ze lekkere sandwiches en salades aan bijvoorbeeld. Ik heb hier vedergeval een heerlijke salade gegeten en een vers sapje gedronken. Hier zit je heerlijk als het mooi weer is! Verder vind je hier nog een farm shop waar je verschillende producten en servies kan kopen. Ik heb hier een fles wijn gekocht, namelijk Babylonstoren Babel. Ik bezocht deze farm op de dag van vertrek dus ik mocht niet drinken. Ik heb de wijn nog niet geprobeerd aangezien ik heb gehoord dat het beter is om wijn een maand te laten rusten na een vliegreis.
Simonsig
Bubbles, bubbles I love bubbles! And I love the Simonsig bubbles and the other wines are delicious as well! I really like their Pinotage Redhill from 2014 besides their sparkling wines. Have a tasting in their garden.
Bubbels, bubbels ik houd van bubbels! En ik word heel blij van de sparkling wines van Simonsig. De andere wijnen zijn ook heel lekker, vooral de Pinotage Redhill uit 2014 scoorde goed bij mij. Doe de tasting in de tuin.
Warwick
A comfortable place to have a picknick for lunch. Make a reservation on their website in advance and choose a spot in their garden. This is a great spot where you can relax for hours on their soft pillows and enjoy their food and wines.
Een super comfortabele plek om te picknicken voor de lunch. Maak een reservering op de website van te voren en kies een plekje in de tuin. Het is een goede plek om uren te relaxen op de zachte kussens en te genieten van het eten en de wijnen.
Stark Conde
This winery is really pretty and the tasting room is located on a small island in the water with a breathtaking view over the mountains and vineyards.
Deze wijnboerderij en de tasting room is echt supermooi! De tastingroom is te vinden op een eilandje in het water met een prachtig uitzicht over de bergen en de wijngaarden.
Delaire-Graff
One of the most luxury wine estates I know and worth the visit. Besides wine tasting which I did, I heard that the restaurant is quite good as well.
Een van de meest luxe wijnboerderijen is Delaire Graff en dit plekje moet je bezoeken! Naast de wine tasting die ik heb gedaan, heb ik gehoord dat je hier lekker kunt eten.
Tokara
Also a luxury wine estate with some exclusive wines which are delicious. They serve olives during the wine tasting which are pretty good as well.
Ook een luxe wine estate met exclusieve wijnen welke heerlijk zijn. Ze serveren tijdens het wijnproeven ook hele lekkere olijven.
Mont Rochelle
Contact them in advance to order a picknick basket. When you arrive you can pick up your basket, choose a bottle of wine and choose your own spot and walk around between the vineyards and the garden. Super romantic!
Neem vooraf contact met ze op om een picknickmand te bestellen. Bij aankomst kun je je mand ophalen, een fles wijn erbij bestellen en mag je zelf een plekje uitzoeken in de tuin en wijngaarden om te gaan picknicken. Super romantisch!
Hidden Valley
A pretty winery where you have a beautiful view over the vineyards while having your tasting. And they serve olives as well during the tasting, yummy!
Een prachtige wijnboerderij met een fantastisch uitzicht over de wijngaarden tijdens je tasting. Ook hier serveren ze lekkere olijven tijdens de tasting!
Webersburg
A small winery – and if you do a tasting over here the setting is small and personal and that makes this winery different from the others. The view is pretty and if you are lucky you may spot some buffalo’s around. The red wines are amazing!
Een kleine wijnboerderij waar een tasting kan doen in een smalle setting met veel persoonlijke aandacht. Die persoonlijke aandacht maakt een tasting anders dan bij de andere wijnboerderijen in positieve zin. Het uitzicht is wederom mooi en als je geluk hebt spot je hier wilde buffels. Vooral de rode wijnen zijn hier een aanrader!
